Overview of Practicing the Way Discipleship Program

"Go and make disciples" (Matt. 28:19-20). Those were among the last words that Jesus quoted before He left earth. It is the churches mandate and marching orders. We are proud to launch a discipleship course entitled Practicing the Way. Over the next nine months the program will guide us through nine spiritual practices that help us become apprentices (followers) of Jesus, and make other disciples. We will gather at the beginning and end of every month for an interactive experience via Zoom as each practice is introduced. Our time will include teaching, sharing, discussion, and storytelling. A Companion Guide will be offered every month with helpful material for the particular practice. At the end of the month we will come back together to recap the specific practice and encourage one another to keep the momentum going. We are honored that the program will be led and facilitated by our own clergy and lay members.

 Practices of the Church

Reflect on the key spiritual practices that shape the life and faith of the church. Each of these disciplines helps believers grow closer to God and live out their faith in daily life:

  • Sabbath – A time set apart for rest and worship, reminding believers to trust in God’s provision.

  • Prayer – Communication with God through praise, confession, thanksgiving, and supplication.

  • Fasting – Abstaining from food or comfort to focus on spiritual renewal and dependence on God.

  • Service – Acting in love to meet the needs of others, following Christ’s example of humility.

  • Witness – Sharing the message of Jesus Christ through words and actions that reflect the gospel.

  • Generosity – Giving freely of time, resources, and love to bless others and advance God’s kingdom.

  • Scripture – Reading and meditating on God’s Word to grow in understanding and obedience.

  • Community – Building relationships of fellowship, support, and accountability within the body of Christ.

  • Solitude – Withdrawing from distractions to spend quiet, personal time with God for reflection and renewal
